About the project
K.D. "von Leitenburg" is working on the reviving of Lože Castle and its natural environment to make it safe and accessible to the whole community as a testimony of its past.
The estate, surrounded by 215,000m2 of forest, farmland, and vineyards, lies in southern Slovenia. In 1945, ahead of the birth of the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia, the then-owner, Dr. Evgen Mayer, was forced to leave his estate. It was taken over by the regime. After 30 years of legal proceedings, it were returned to the Mayers, in very poor condition.
On the Lože estate, Evgen Mayer had orchards, vineyards. He was also a silkworm breeder. His sister, Ana Mayer Kansky, the first female Doctor of Science at the University of Ljubljana, organized the picking of apricots from those orchards and sold them to Trieste to finance her studies.
We would like to restore an auxiliary building and turn it into a guesthouse to accommodate guests who engage in nature-based activities, while traveling across Europe.

Partners we are looking for
We are seeking for partners who can support us in developing and carrying out our idea, mainly experts in agriculture and restoration of natural heritage and sustainable building restoration. Some organizations already active in the network of World-Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms would be very welcome.
