About the project
The project aims to increase knowledge and exchange experiences about how public policies provide for and regulate the removal, destruction and disposal of PFAS in solid and liquid waste.
PFAS, persistent and extremely mobile in the environment, have been proved to be very hazardous to human health. Regulatory and legislative frameworks (EU, national and regional) limit or ban the use of some PFAS or also prescribe maximum contamination levels to be achieved. Anyway, the comprehensive treatment of PFAS and their destruction still remain a critical issue.
The project objective is to define an optimal regulatory and technical path, environmentally and economically sustainable, for the broad-spectrum removal and destruction of PFAS (and other "recalcitrant" organic contaminants). The project will specifically focus on available applications and technologies for the initial separation and concentration of PFAS on a solid or liquid matrix and its subsequent destructive treatment.
