3rd Interregional event of the WEEEWaste project - Leipzig

DAY 1, April 24th: Policy Discovery Journey and Market Analysis

The first day began with a warm welcome from Aufbauwerk, followed by presentation of policy instruments within the region, consisting of: Office for Economic Development City of Leipzig and City Cleaning Leipzig, which presented its zero waste strategy. Afterwards, policy instruments of Romania and Spain were also presented. 

A panel discussion followed on the topic 'What is the biggest obstacle to the circular economy of electrical and electronic equipment?' with engaging discussions and inputs from partners and stakeholders. The 2nd part of the panel discussion focused on 'What can we learn from the other projects?' 'How can we support the other projects?' and 'What do i want for the future within the consortium?'

To close the first day, our advisory partner, Hanze University of Applied Sciences, presented the Market analysis alignment and WEEEwaste circular best practices evaluation tool, to which each participant also gave their feedback.

 

DAY 2, April 25th: Steering Committee and Best Practice Exchange Session

The 2nd and final day of our meeting started of with the Steering Committee, discussing current and upcoming tasks as well as communication progress within the project so far, followed by a presentation of a best practice example from Slovenia - EKO LLC. Afterwards, we had our interregional study visit, which consisted of 3 stops:

1. Stop: Concept Store “Wiederschön”, an unused retail space, where visitors will be able to experience the circular economy through events workshops, educational programmes and shopping opportunities. 

2. Stop: Inab – Solidarity Recycling Station, a central collection point for wood, metal, electronics, plastics as well as small items of furniture and more. The materials are sorted, stored, processed and returned to the people.

3. Stop: Hardware for Future, refurbishment and repair of donated hardware and distribution to people in need.

The meeting was productive and the consortium is eagerly looking forward to the next in-person meeting.
