Association of Transport Innovation (TIA)
About this good practice
Transport and logistics account for around 13% of GDP in Lithuania, yet it is also one of the most bureaucratic and least digitized sectors. Also, digitization takes place in a fragmented way, within individual companies. There is a lack of transmission links with customs and other authorities. There are no common systems with neighbouring countries to ensure the smooth and efficient movement of goods. Last but not least, there are new and upcoming EU level regulations in the field of digitisation.
The Association brings together Lithuanian public institutions, NGOs, EU institutions, international partners, Lithuanian transport and logistics companies, innovation support organizations, start-ups.
It has the vision to provide leadership in the field of transport and logistics by increasing the awareness and understanding of digitisation. As a result, it has a mission to create a business-friendly environment through digitisation and innovation. The institution has these goals: 'create a community of transport and logistics innovators, that would generate, discover, test and implement new ideas towards digitalisation and effectiveness; develop a National Transport and Logistics Digitisation Strategy; expand the cooperation with EU institutions; create solutions for logistics and customs procedures and enable all members of the association to use them; increase the competitiveness of SMEs and Lithuanian transport and logistics sector.

Think tank currently initiates 8 different projects, some of which were introduced to the government representatives and have their support.
Also, TIA together with partners managed to organize international event “Transport Innovation Forum”, which attracted nearly 1000 participants from more than 15 European countries.
Potential for learning or transfer
This good practice is especially important in the context of digitisation and business efficiency. The future of our economy is digital and it is important to make sure, that our companies would be front-runners in this context. To do so, it is important to have a facilitator in the innovation ecosystem, that would be dedicated to promote these processes. TIA with all its competencies and expertise, community and political support implements this function and it is a great example that could be repeated in other regions.
