This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
The aim of the BIDH is to provide industrial enterprises, especially SMEs, with the technological capabilities needed to meet the challenges of industry 4.0. It consists of a digitally-linked network of R&D infrastructures, pilot plants and specialized know-how in different areas of advanced manufacturing. The network is owned by R&D Centers, vocational training centers and universities and is supported by regional public institutions. It will be used for the development of R&D projects, scaling of industrial projects, exhibition of cutting-edge technologies and also as a resource for training and acceleration of startups.
In 2017 an initial "asset catalogue" was built with system agents.
The BDIH network articulates a portfolio of services that distinguishes five main lines of work available to companies and scientific and technological stakeholders:
1. Information and advisory: identification of opportunities, solutions and teams.
2. Training and experimentation: digital manufacturing infrastructure rental service.
3. Generation and transfer of knowledge: development of new solutions and equipment; development and optimization of new processes; hybridisation of processes; supervision and monitoring of processes.
4. Collaboration and co-working: open innovation and identification of opportunities in collaboration with different stakeholders
5. Talent attraction: attraction of new opportunities at international level

Resources needed
Concrete resources will be defined once the definition of the system is completed.
Evidence of success
So far, 6 nodes have been defined to articulate coherently the Industry 4.0 assets already identified into the BDIH:
1) Additive Manufacturing
2) Flexible and Collaborative Robotics
3) Big Data Analytics
4) New Materials
5) Cybersecurity
6) Smart and connected machines
Further evidence will be available after the complete design of the process

Potential for learning or transfer
The BIDH cannot afford to equip itself with all the relevant test banks to accelerate the digital transformation of the Basque SMEs. Therefore, there is a need to implement an instrument that allows the connection of the BDIH with other DIHs in such a way that Basque SMEs can access additional facilities, complete the missing competencies and develop new services
This type of collaboration between Digital Innovation Hubs would not only allow industrial SMEs in the Basque Country to access other hubs located in other regions, but also companies from outside the Basque Country could make use of BDIH assets, thus connecting European innovation ecosystems.
