CIRCULAR VALLEY
About this good practice
The GP Circular Valley finds its place in the wider context of The Netherlands’ strategy to become a Circular Hotspot in the world. One of the key elements to reach this goal is to ensure the dialogue between different stakeholders involved in the transition towards a Circular Economy. This is the core aim of Circular Valley, an innovation hub that offers an environment specifically designed to boost and support circular economy-related activities by bringing together stakeholders related to the topic, ranging from designers to NGOs, start-ups, SMEs, corporate and governmental organizations.
The support is given not only in terms of space, but also in terms of business guidance. Other hubs and co-working services usually provide working space and indirect access to one type of organization (mostly start-ups), but rarely provide a full-spectrum access to all stakeholders of an economic system, capital, tools and methods. Since circular processes require a cross-sector collaboration, Circular Valley provides physical working spaces with innovation labs as well as proven circular tools and methods and access to capital.
Resources needed
The GP was funded with 90 million e from a diverse group of stakeholders, such as Reggeborgh, VolkerWessels and Delta Development.
Evidence of success
Even though it is a very young initiative, its success is demonstrated by the number of innovative organisations hosted and supported, that so far are 6.
Potential for learning or transfer
The key feature of the GP is the ability of the project to bring together, link and build synergies between different stakeholder that at different levels are involved in the transition towards a Circular Economy. This peculiarity represents the most valuable and interesting aspect to be transferred to other regions, as the dialogue between the actors is at the same time extremely important and extremely difficult to establish and manage.
