Climate Change Platform of Komárom-Esztergom County
About this good practice
On 27 October 2016 the Municipality of Komárom-Esztergom County signed the subsidy contract of the Environmental and Energy Efficiency Operational Program -1.2.0-15-2016-00021 “Creation of climate strategy and climate change platform of Komárom-Esztergom County” project. The main aim of the project was to provide a framework for activities supporting climate adaptation and the prevention of climate change. In order to achieve that goal, climate strategy documents are developed and knowledge-exchange and awareness-raising programs are held at county level.
The goals of the Platform are the following: expand the climate change-related knowledge of county level decision-makers and the public; coordinate activities related to these topics at county level; ensure long-term conditions for professional communication; support and coordinate the implementation of climate strategy.
The goals of the Platform are achieved through the implementation of the following tasks: monitoring the preparation of the climate strategy of the county; creating an action plan, contribution to the realization of goals and projects under the strategy; support for local strategy preparation and the work of platforms; dissemination of news and development opportunities regarding climate change to local actors; assessment and presentation of knowledge and good practices regarding local climate change; online consultancy; regular contact and cooperation with Association of Climate-Friendly Municipalities.
Resources needed
The project provided 30 million HUF. The operation of the platform was supported by a 2-person secretariat. After the conclusion of the project, the operation is provided by the county’s municipality.
Evidence of success
The platform now has 31 members who organize regular meetings annually. Participation is based on knowledge-exchange. The platform also provides consultancy and supports the preparation of local climate strategies.

This good practice can be set up anywhere, in any region of Europe. The main task is to find the experts who have relevant knowledge about climate protection and adaptation to climate change and create the platform with their membership. Gathering these professionals provides an opportunity to provide the general public and organizations with useful knowledge. This knowledge is accessible for all interested parties.
