About this good practice
The project “Becharac and Ganga” represents the joint of two different folk songs that both have in common the UNSECO protection and that they originate from the continental parts of Croatia, which are outside of the main tourism regions and away from the main urban centers. Both songs have a long tradition associated with the unique pattern of folklore, which constitutes not only a rich cultural heritage but also creates numerous intangible activities (including culinary activities, craft work, etc.). This cultural route is aiming to make this cultural heritage more accessible to citizens and wider public by promoting a dynamic image of this heritage, which includes construction of new city squares of Becharac and Ganga, with new museum buildings, and developing new cross-border tourism products. The Museum of Becharac is one of the first projects in Croatia to present the intangible cultural heritage through a permanent exhibition, interactive presentations, and creative workshops. The project engaged local architects to come up with architectural decision which would fit the urban development. Moreover, the importance of the museum and the square was to give a new picture of the city. The museum hosts all sorts of social and cultural events, and square serves as a focal point for meetings. The museum and the square are considered as very successful projects because they promoted cultural heritage but at the same time they engaged wide range of professionals.
