Development and Rehabilitation of Tram Line with funding from EU Structural Funds in Iasi City

That area (of around 70.000 inhabitants) used to be an industrial area before the ‘90s. After the closure of this platform (between 1990-2000), for a while the area has been depopulated. During next 10-15 years in the area appeared a lot of small and large-size small services providers and retail business, a Technological Parck and some major IT companies that made the area attractive again. Also, the residential area at the South entrance of the city increased dramatically in last 10 years, so traffic congestion become an important issue for the Municipality. The tram line (constructed during the ‘70s) have been disaffected for around 20 years after the ‘90s, and through this project the line has been reintroduced in use, this way the capacity of public transport doubled and even tripled in a very short time. Iasi Public Transport Company studies shows a major impact in traffic congestion and pollution reduction (at least 25-30% of the area population use constantly this tram line instead of personal cars and some other 8-10% occasionally). This tram line linking south area of the city with the city center and with the university area. The main beneficiaries are the inhabitants of the area, the people working in the area (mainly on It and retail field),
