About this good practice
PROBLEM ADDRESSED: Digi, AI and ManuMaturity are self-assessment tools, answering the questions: ‘what is the current state of play of a business’ when the business wishes to proceed with digitalisation, apply AI or reach beyond Industry 4.0. Their added value is that they are not grass roots maturity assessment tools and that they are provide roadmaps for transforming an organisation beyond Industry 4.0
HOW RESULTS ARE REACHED: The self-assessment tools help understanding the concept in question and assess current readiness and performance. Each maturity tool has 6-7 dimensions (see map above) with several questions related to each one of the dimensions. Each question has 5 alternative response options (reflecting corresponding maturity levels) from which to choose. The maturity levels are: 0 not existing or irrelevant, 1 Preliminary or identified, 2 Defined, 3 Managed, 4 Excellent. The immediate result graph illustrates the present state and the potential development needs.
In case the respondent wishes to discuss over the results or development ideas a result discussion, workshop or development project can be implemented.

Resources needed
VTT developed these maturity tools during the past five years. The AI maturity tool was developed together with the University of Oulu. Digi and Manu maturity tools have been implemented as VTT’s own work without external funding or contribution.
Evidence of success
The Digi tool has been exploited by individual companies as well as in development projects focusing on speci!c regions, domains or sectors.
Peer-to-peer analysis between companies may identify common needs for further development projects.
The University of Oulu and Lapland University of Applied Sciences use the service in teaching.

Potential for learning or transfer
The maturity tools could be shared over Europe with local language and local support to the respondents. They will be part of VTT’s offering in the EDIH (European Digital Innovation Hub) proposals.
Collaboration with international and European RTOs is needed to share these maturity tools with native languages and local support. An agreement template has already been drafted for this purpose. Access to the tools: The web tools are freely available (in English and in Finnish) for non-commercial self- assessment.
A browser and valid email address are available at https://digimaturity.vtt.fi, https://ai.digimaturity.vtt.fi and https://manumaturity.vtt.fi .
