Digital maturity self-assessment tool
About this good practice
The digital maturity tool has been built in relation to key aspects of the company's development in the context of Industry 4.0. The respondent is able to identify the stage of the company's development in several dimensions based on three main pillars: organization, technology and processes. After answering 12 substantive questions and providing 8 short statistical information about the company, the survey participant receives assessments of the level of development of key aspects in the examined company.
It takes about 15 minutes to complete the survey, and as feedback, the respondent receives a clear graphic presentation of the level of digital maturity in various areas related to the three pillars: Organization, Processes and Technologies
The tool was developed by experts from the University of Warsaw and is used by the Future Industry Platform - a foundation established by the Polish government to promote the concept of Industry 4.0. It was consulted both with experts specializing in production technologies, production management, process automation and IT, and with practitioners of strategic changes in the company and human resources management.
The questionnaire is available online: https://przemyslprzyszlosci.gov.pl/kierunekprzemysl40/
Resources needed
Developing a tool of this type requires expert knowledge in areas such as business management, IT or automation. To be effective, the tool should also be part of a broader support system for SMEs implementing digital technologies
Evidence of success
The model provided by the Future Industry Platform is the most popular tool for assessing digital maturity in Poland and today is an obligatory assessment tool for the Digital Innovation Hubs operating in Poland.
Potential for learning or transfer
The technological changes that the economy is currently experiencing require companies to take initiatives to modernize their activities. In order to be effective, the implementation of Industry 4.0 solutions should be preceded by self-assessment of resources, both in terms of organization and technology.
The tool developed by experts from the University of Warsaw gives entrepreneurs an opportunity to take the first step towards digital transformation, i.e. to determine the level at which the company is currently operating and to develop an initial concept of future changes.
The advantage of the model provided by the Future Industry Platform is that it is included in a broader range of activities, including trainings and workshops for managers as well as demonstrations of practical applications of Industry 4.0.
This model is universal and can be introduced everywhere.
