About this good practice
DIH-HERO is an independent platform that connects Digital Innovation Hubs across Europe to create a sustainable network for all those who are active in the healthcare robotics sector. The project consortium consists of 17 core partners spread across 11 pan-European countries.
IH-HERO enables them to develop innovative products and services that are better fitted to the needs of the healthcare systems across Europe. Furthermore. The network focuses on developing services that join business and healthcare stakeholders in developing innovative products and services for the healthcare market. DIH-HERO developed channels between healthcare and technology providers that reduce barriers to adoption and which develop a strong mutual understanding between robotics technology innovators and healthcare professionals. DIH-HERO operates throughout the healthcare "pathway" that connects Prevention, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Care as well as covering all aspects of hospital logistics and clinical services. It will also focus on home and care-based robotics addressing healthy aging and elderly care.

Expert opinion
DIH-HERO is a platform that connects Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs) in healthcare robotics, namely involving a network 17 core partners spreading across 11 pan-European countries. The network facilitates collaboration for the joint development of products and services and the exchange of knowledge in healthcare robotics throughout the value chain. DIH-HERO focuses on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), for instance, with travel vouchers for cross-border activities and calls for cross-border collaboration. Moreover, DIH-HERO launched a call to respond to COVID-19 crisis with healthcare robotics. The good practice shows that such DIH networks can accelerate innovation in high-tech and frontier sectors through cross-border collaboration and having the flexibility to open calls to address societal challenges. Moreover, such initiatives can reduce European fragmentation and engage in European standardisation for robotics in healthcare, including ethical, legal, and societal issues.

Interreg Europe Policy Learning Platform
Resources needed
Each Hub partner delivers both technical and medical expertise to the consortium. DIH-HERO is supported by the European community for four years beginning in January 2019 with 16 Mio € of which 8 Mio € will be invested into DIH-HERO own calls for SME.
Evidence of success
Each Hub partner delivers both technical and medical expertise to the consortium through their pre-existing operational relationships with hospitals and healthcare facilities. They couple in-built expertise in business development, access to finance and innovation to robotics technology and healthcare expertise in a network of hubs that connects and stimulate robotics innovation in all aspects of healthcare.
Potential for learning or transfer
The implemented activities within the Network allowed to create a cooperation platform with an impact even beyond the Network. The implementation of the Network's activities also serves as an input for the strategic innovation policy of the region.
