This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
FACCAM aims at supporting the creation of original works in cinema, television and new media.
It fosters new talents and participates in preserving diversity in artistic and cultural creation.
It contributes to structuring a strong and identified professional sector in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes and contributes to the dynamism of the territory through economic benefits (employment, filming, services).
The Fund intervenes at all the stages in the development of cinematic or audiovisual works, by supporting script-writing, development and production.
Beneficiaries
Development aid and production aid are available to any production company located in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, or to any production company developing a project that integrates an artistic, cultural or heritage link with the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes.
The aid applies to original works designed specifically for new media. These works are intended to be broadcast on one or more format (Internet, mobile devices, etc.). They develop an original narrative approach and can make use of innovative technologies (virtual reality, augmented reality, geolocation, etc.).
Proposed amount / support
- for the development of new media projects, grant to the production company, limited to €20,000, up to 50% of the development budget
- for the production of new media projects, grant to the production company, limited to €60,000, up to 50% of the prod

Resources needed
In 2018, €150,000 were divided among the 7 approved immersive VR experience projects (€55,000 for 3 projects in development aid and €95,000 in production aid).
Evidence of success
With 12 applications filed, immersive experience (VR, AR, etc.) projects represent a little more than half of the requests for new media aid in 2018 (6 applications for production and 6 for development).
On these 12 requests, 7 projects have been approved.
For the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, the total economic benefits of the 7 VR projects could exceed €1 million (of the €2.5 million budget invested by production companies on these projects), a x6 leverage of the amount of regional aid.

Potential for learning or transfer
Content is key. The partners of the Digitourism project came to this conclusion after observing various initiatives using Virtual Reality or Augmented Reality. These technologies are very interesting and make many new tourist products possible, but even with the best and most up-to-date technology, the final product can only be as good as the created content.
This is the reason why the public authorities willing to encourage the use of AR and VR in tourism because of the high potential of these technologies, should consider focusing first on supporting the creation of quality content.
The Fund for the Creation of Cinematic, Audiovisual and New Media Works is an example of a public policy that encourages the development of AR and VR creations. Territories wishing to reach this objective can gain inspiration from this practice.
