This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
The passive kindergarten represents the latest generation of energy-efficient buildings. Heating is provided by means of heat pumps and ground heat exchangers, which allows to significantly reduce the costs of its operation. The building is designed for 150 children. In an innovative facility with a usable area of over 1,200 sq, there are, among others: 6 kindergarten rooms - each maintained in a different, vivid color, recreation room with a mobile wall allowing for enlarging the room, a modern kitchen meeting high standards - equipped with steel appliances stainless, teacher's room and administrative rooms. A modern electronic security and monitoring system has been installed in the building. The innovative, comfort-friendly solutions used in the facility include: mechanical ventilation and floor heating controlled individually in each room. An innovative element is the Solar Cool system - a solar collector operating in the cooling system of the air-conditioning system. In accordance with the idea of passive housing, pre-school rooms are located in the southern part of the building, so as to allow good interior lighting with natural light. This allows to minimize the energy costs used to illuminate them and obtain additional solar radiation.
Resources needed
Project is co-financed within the Regional Operational Programme for the Lodzkie Region 2014-2020, Priority Axis IV: Low-emission Economy, Activity IV.3: Air Protection. The investment cost is ca. EUR 1.5 mln and obtained for this purpose co-financing from European funds is ca. EUR 96,000.00.
Evidence of success
The kindergarten is the most modern passive building in the Lodzkie Region. The radiator heating is competely eliminated. Average recovery of heat exchanger is bigger than 70%. Thermal comfort is obtained with seasonal heat consumption for heating at 15 kWh/(m2 x year).
Potential for learning or transfer
In accordance with Directive 2010/31/EU, from the beginning of 2021, all newly built facilities in European Union countries that have been put into use will have to be buildings with almost zero energy consumption. Therefore, it is a good practice for municipalities in Lodzkie Region, but also throughout the country and EU, which will have a chance to better prepare for those new regulations.
Without any doubt, this is the beginning of a better green future for our children!
