This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
Trocnov site is an isolated monument to Jan Žižka, a military leader of Hussite armed forces from the 15th century. Although there is not much preserved from the 15th century at the site itself (except for few foundation excavations), it presents an open-air museum and a small museum building at the entrance, presenting the history of the area and archaeological findings. It presents a very popular topic since the Reformation movement in the Czech lands was a crucial era to form the nation. The topic of execution of Jan Hus and subsequent Hussite wars is still resonating in the society, resulting in an interest in sites and areas linked to it, including the Trocnov monument. Despite the isolation and lack of truly historical tangible landmarks, it is one of the most visited museums in the region. However, the museum was a traditional display of items with no interactive elements and, in modern museum standards, rather boring. Therefore in it has been revitalized and completed with interactive and gamification elements. Also, several annual events were established, including traditional craft demonstrations, historical fairs, and theatre performances. Thus, despite its remoteness and historical topic it still draws visitors at an increasing rate every year. This boost in its popularity led to the development of the site further which led to a recently started project of a re-enactment of a historical farmhouse with even more interactive and gamification elements.
Resources needed
The currently going project of farmhouse replica is worth almost 2 million euros.
Evidence of success
An increasing number of visitors
Ability to get funds for further development (farmhouse replica), otherwise they would not be eligible to get them
Ability to get funds for further development (farmhouse replica), otherwise they would not be eligible to get them
Potential for learning or transfer
The practice as a whole is probably not easy to replicate but some of the elements are easily transferable. Among them, we could include an increase in public transport lines to operate the site to allow non-driving individual visitors to reach the site. Also, the modernization of the museum has made it attractive for schoolchildren and higher education students of cultural history, making it a complementary educational facility.
