About this good practice
The aim of this project was mitigation of flood flows and strengthening the protection of the natural and river landscape. Project itself forms a balanced landscape element, which contributes to improving the aesthetic function of area. The territory of the river floodplain is divided into purely natural, natural – recreational and recreational areas.
Within this project have been built 4 ponds with retention capacity of almost 8 000 m3 in order to improve the flood function of the area, ie. to strengthen the natural water retention.
Furthermore vegetation modifications were carried out, which consisted mainly of felling and planting of new trees, grassing of areas etc. New plantings increased the fragmentation and hydraulic roughness of the area, which slows down the water flow through the floodplain.

Potential for learning or transfer
Sustainable urban development is a term frequently used while seeking the best solutions to shared public space in cities. Some of the most significant focuses of such an approach incorporate rainwater management and adaptation to global climatic changes. What can we do as to changing a negative perception of heavy rainfall and torrential rain in the city? How can we learn to share public space with water?
