About this good practice
Creative people, by default, tend to cluster, innovate and share a purpose, taking up new ideas and realising them. Lisbon’s City Council – Department of Innovation and Strategic Sectors – recognized the significant economic and social potential of creativity and knowledge transfer for the city of Lisbon and acted upon it by implementing Mouraria Creative Hub.
Mouraria Creative Hub offers a shared workspace, access to professionals in the industry to provide mentorship, tailor-made business training and support in go-to market strategies and tools: management coaching, assistance in preparing an effective business plan, administrative services, technical support, business networking, help in finding sources of financing, customizing a collaborative program of activities to support projects, companies and surrounding communities towards a social, local and sustainable economic growth.
Each of the services is uniquely designed to meet the needs of the community, to bridge the worlds of business and arts/culture and to provide space for new encounters which can create innovation with commercial potential with positive economic and regeneration impacts.

Potential for learning or transfer
Creative hubs are often spaces for experimentation, artistic expression, peer-to-peer learning and incubation of ideas. They act as conveners, facilitating the transfer of knowledge and the cross pollination of different sectors and areas of expertise. This often leads to the creation of new value in goods, services and artistic practices, meaning, innovation.
Mouraria Creative Hub represents a systemic network approach to coping with uncertain social, cultural and economic environments using creativity to explore new paths towards economic development and jobs creation through governance of knowledge transfer policies, providing new solutions to urban development issues by triggering creativity.
