About this good practice
The ITS constitute the first Italian experience of a professionalizing post-secondary non-university training offer. The goal of these institutes is to train ‘super technicians’ in specific innovative technological areas in which there is a considerable demand. The courses last two years, for a total of 1800 hours, and integrate education, field training and work.
Since the competence on ITS has been delegated to the regional administrations, the Marche Region has supported higher technical training.
The final qualification, subject to a frequency of at least 80% of the total number of hours, is the Higher Technician Diploma, with the indication of the technological area.
In the Marche Region, four foundations have been set up to train super technicians.
• ITS TECHNOLOGY & MADE IN ITALY
• ITS FASHION, ENVIRONMENT, RESEARCH, TECHNOLOGY SYSTEM
• ITS TOURISM MARCHE
• ITS ENERGY EFFICIENCY
The first two have activated courses for training super technicians in INDUSTRY 4.0.

Resources needed
With resolution no.850 of 6/7/2020, the Regional Government approved a public notice for the 4 ITS Foundations based in the Marche region. They received the total of € 2,860,257.00 of ESF funding, with maximum amount of € 238,354.75 for each of the 12 training courses to be implemented in 2020-2022.
Evidence of success
Overall results:
• employed at 12 months in areas consistent with the specific diploma: 87.5%
• teachers coming from the business world: 70%
• hours of internship carried out in the companies: more than 40%

Potential for learning or transfer
The competitive advantage of ITS, compared to the classical academic courses, is that they can be programmed quickly: virtually every year, it is possible to change the content and purpose of the course, based on the needs identified by the economic realities that are part of the Foundations.
The most important added value of ITS courses is the real usability of the diploma: according to regional monitoring, the employment of young people trained in ITS in recent years always stands at around 90% of graduates because this qualification responds to a real need of businesses.
Another consideration concerns the important interconnection with the business world such as to convince the companies themselves to invest their own human and financial resources in these professional qualifications.
