The CIVITEC project officially launched on May 22nd and 23rd in Nicosia (Cyprus), hosted by the lead partner, Nicosia Development Agency (ANEL). The project aims to enhance citizen and civic inclusion and promote the digital transformation of public decision-making processes.

During the two-day kick-off event, partners from 11 organisations across Europe gathered to discuss strategies to reinforce transparency, accountability, and the capacity of local governments through participatory processes. The focus is on leveraging CivicTech and improving methodologies to achieve these goals.

Participants had the opportunity to learn from local best practices during their visit to Nicosia. The exchange of experiences began with a study visit to the University of Cyprus where the co-creation studio was presented by the Department of Architecture, a pedagogical approach engaging the community in decision making for public space co-creation and use that was applied in Latsia Municipality (one of ANEL’s members). In addition, local experts presented successful examples of applied CivicTech. More specifically, they demonstrated some eParticipation initiatives that engage students in urban planning and a Virtual Reality project that creates digital twins of sites in Nicosia to gather citizen feedback for designing pathways.

Stay tuned for more updates on the CIVITEC project as it progresses!
