2021 was a busy, but rewarding year for the programme. Let’s stop for a moment to look back and take stock. Here are five of the key events that happened this year.

Launch of the new programme

It’s the end of an era. Or at least of a programming period. But when one door closes, another always opens.

And so, this year we said goodbye to the 2014-2020 Interreg Europe programme and hello to a new programme, with new topics, new colours and soon, new projects.

We launched the new programme on 24-25 November during an online edition of Europe, let’s cooperate. It was a great opportunity for policymakers, experts and practitioners from all across Europe to discuss and collaborate. See what you missed. Watch the recordings.

The call for additional activities

Image
In April, we launched a fifth call for proposals of additional activities which was open to all our 258 approved projects.

We wanted to give them new opportunities to exchange experiences on the way the COVID-19 crisis impacted the issue they address and to further improve their regional development policies to better face the current challenges.

78 projects received funding their activities.  See some key figures about the call and the assessment results.

The cycling cities series

The Policy Learning Platform hosted a series of five webinars in 2021 about cycling and urban mobility. The series looked at the potential of bicycles to shape the zero-emission future of urban mobility in Europe. Over 570 of our community members participated in the events.

Helping projects with their online activities

In September, we organised an online workshop to exchange experiences on online project activities. During the session, our projects shared examples of their activities and discussed ideas and recommendations for the future.
