The European Museum Forum (EMYA), part of the Council of Europe, at an official ceremony held in Portugal in May, as part of the 2024 Museum of the Year nomination, awarded the "Portimão Museum Prize" to the Salt Museum in Messolonghi Region of Western Greece.

This is a huge distinction with international impact as this award is one of the largest given to museums around the world.

The jury's reasoning states that the Salt Museum is "a museum full of heart and humility that makes a difference. A museum that promotes a shared sense of history, industrial heritage, and environmental sustainability. A particularly hospitable, dynamic, and attractive museum that makes visitors feel at home".

The jury, among the 50 participating Museums from 29 European countries selected by expert evaluators, ranked and included the SALT MUSEUM on the list of Europe's award-winning cultural institutions.
