Interreg Europe CP approved

On 23 July, the European Commission approved the last details linked to the extension of our Interreg Europe cooperation programme to the seven EU candidate countries:

  • Albania,
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Moldova
  • Montenegro
  • North Macedonia
  • Serbia and
  • Ukraine

These seven EU candidate countries are now fully integrated in our cooperation programme. Partners and regional policymakers and practitioners from these countries have full access to all cooperation opportunities our programme offers.

What has changed?

  • The cooperation area got bigger. We grew from 29 to 36 Partner States with even more ideas and good practices to share.
  • The budget for cooperation increased from MEUR 379 to MEUR 394 to support exchange of experience and policy learning among all regions in the 36 countries.
  • Organisations from the seven EU candidate countries can experience cooperation in the Interreg Europe projects as discovery partners if they wish.

What's next

Over 50 projects approved in the first and second calls extended their partnerships with up to two institutions from our seven new Partner States. You can find some key figures about the so-called restricted call in this article.

260 institutions from the seven EU candidate countries joined as applicants in the 206 project proposals submitted during the third call in early June 2024. We are currently busy assessing these proposals. We hope to approve the third call projects before the end of 2024.
