3R6 Certification - Waste Management
About this good practice
Through six steps—auditing, consultation, training, measurement, activation, and visibility—it aims to encourage proper waste management. The following parties are involved in the implementation of a 3R6 Certification in a beach setting: the municipality, beach users, waste management systems, the appropriate authorities (APA, DGRM, etc.), and event organizers. The citizen will be the main gainer.
Resources needed
The certification may be financed out of the own money of the entity making the request or by using financing from municipalities, community funds, etc.
Auditing, training, consulting, and visibility are all internal resources. External resources: branding and activation.
Evidence of success
Waste characterisation and outcomes, waste quantities selectively collected, containerisation strategy, communication and awareness indicators.
Between 2014 and 2020, 41 entities were certified. When recertification of the same entities is performed, the results of waste characterisation can be used to validate the improvements made.
Potential for learning or transfer
This practice has been used in a variety of settings, including events, offices, and factory environments.
The methodology used recognizes that each entity is unique, and the consulting and waste management process is tailored to the reality of each entity, whether it is a mass event, a recreational area (gardens), an office, or a factory environment.
