About this good practice
The archaeological reserve in Biskupin is one of the largest in Europe. Due to its exceptional value for Poland's cultural heritage, it has been recognized as a Historical Monument. It covers an area of about 38 ha with numerous traces of ancient settlement, from the Stone Age to the early Middle Ages. Education is one of the museum's most important missions. According to the slogan "learning by fun, fun through science ”The museum tries in the most accessible way to popularize knowledge of human life in the distant past. Also employees and supporters have the opportunity to develop, therefore willingly the initiatives they propose are supported, including but not limited to projects in the field of experimental archaeology. The Festival was created to extend the tourist season and to present selected issues related to the archeology of Poland and Europe and other parts of the world and interesting cultures. Each of the festivals to date has been devoted to different issues (cultures of: Slavs, Vikings, Celts, Daks, Indians, Egyptians, Japan, etc.). The main recipients of the festivals are tourists from Poland and the whole of Europe as well as children and youth from primary schools, junior high schools, high schools, etc. The organizer lets everyone to familiarize with cultures that are exotic.
An excellent example of the use of CCT, not only the local communities in the organization of the event, but it also gives creators the opportunity to interact with tourists.

Resources needed
The cost of starting the festival is about 100 000 Euro. About 40 museum employees and 350-400 people from various reconstruction groups presenting demonstrations and workshops in various fields of archaeology, warfare, music and dance, everyday life, cuisine are involved in all activities.
Evidence of success
Every year the festival gathers around 40,000 participants. In 2004, the Festival was awarded with the Certificate of the Polish Tourist Organization as The Tourist product of the year. In 2006 - “Europa Nostra Awards” for the protection of cultural heritage. This is the most important distinction in Europe in the field of cultural heritage. The award is granted to the best projects containing impressive research dedicated to specialists, raising the level of training and educational programs.

The Archaeological Museum in Biskupin is one of the leading "open air museums" in Poland and Europe. This is a real place of living history.
It was the originator and precursor of the Archaeological Festival in Poland. It is the longest-lasting festival in Poland and Europe (it lasts 9 days). Every year, a different theme for exhibitions and shows is selected. The theme of the Festival is not about the history, cultures and customs in old Poland, but the world history and can be used by project partners. An example of using cultural and creative tourism (CCT): the festival provides not only entertainment but also fascination and education. It is a journey characterized by commitment among its participants and also gaining authentic experience by them.
