About this good practice
The previous technical solutions have provided active supervision by staff no matter if the care recipient is in need of help or not. This technical solution supervises and informs the staff when the care recipient is in a risky situation and in need of assistance. It is possible to make individual adjustments depending on the status & needs of the care recipient. This service will be provided by the municipality & will be the standard for all service providers in the municipality, both private and municipal.
The objectives of this work is 90% reduction in physical inspection visits, enabling more efficient use of human resources. 95% of affected employees have satisfactory digital competence regarding digital supervision, in order to be able to work with the new working methods & safety-creating technology. 90% of the care recipients in special housing feel that their need for supervision is met & they feel secure and safe. One challenge is to develop new working methods for staff & learn how to use the techniques.
The staff is used only when needed & the care recipient will not be disturbed more than wanted. This is an effective way of using human resources in combination with a technical solution. The care recipients do not need to carry any technical devices & no active action is needed from the care recipient. This also works as a support for the staff in prioritising the work. The implementation will start in the beginning of 2024 in 4 accommodation units for elderly.
Resources needed
Technical devices and a company that can deliver such technical solutions as well as management of the tools. The budget or the cost of this can not yet be specified at the moment due to Procurement process.
Evidence of success
This has been tested on a small scale in two accommodation units before the municipality decided to upscale the work to all special accommodations for elderly and disabled. Interviews have been made with both night staff, managers and service users. The overall impression is that it is a positive tool and it is easy to use. The user is less disturbed and the staff think it simplifies the work the new working method is implemented. The challenge is the implementation process.
Potential for learning or transfer
With the challenges that comes with a growing population of elderly in combination with the lack of staff this could be one part of the solution and a way of using the human resources when needed.
