About this good practice
European elderly population is growing. TITTAN aims to improve sustainability, quality and performance of regional healthcare systems, providing innovative products/services for a healthy and active ageing.
Launched by Bioga, Bio Investor Program (BIP) & Biospeed Dating (BSD) are within Thematic Area 1, for fostering Outside-In innovation. Besides health and medical devices, it covers agri-food, environment, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
-BIP: focal point for the birth of new biotech business projects while at the same time a meeting point for all those who invest in science and biotech on a national level. It has a 25-hour training program for the biotech projects to get a more mature business plan. It covers the need of accelerating of technology transfer from universities, biomedical foundations and entrepreneurs to launch collaborative R+D+i projects and biotech companies with health applications.
-BSD: yearly activity organized in order to connect the different stakeholders of the biotech sector. The session includes one-to-one meetings for the participants to interact with another biotech companies and projects, as well as a plenary session with an expert in the field of strategic partnering. This event is organized with the aim of fostering the networking between company-research centre and company-company. It covers the need of search for highly specialized investors, who besides financing the initiatives, become part of the human team, providing their experience

Evidence of success

4 BIP editions: biotech start-ups present their business plan in just one day to venture capital funds, public and private.
Both foster the creation of biotech companies and specialized jobs in business development.
With BIP, 30% of presented projects received funding through capital risk companies, as well as the know-how of experts who join the team of the project as sponsors or business development managers.

Biotechnology and health sector work with Xunta de Galicia to reach the targets established in the RIS3.
Public sector is already participating in BIP and BSD, through the financing of the organization of this events, such as active participation with their investors funds (XesGalicia at regional level or CDTI and Enisa at national level) and generating projects for its public calls (ConectaPeme for Galicia, Innterconecta or Neotec for Spain).
In one day companies know the lines that are been developing in research centres. Thus, companies discover how its expertise is valuable for the researchers through new collaboration models.
-Its develops new products: functional foods or IT applications which help to the prevention and control of illness in a non-invasive way and genetics tests for diagnosis
-Its develops projects of research among companies and research groups establishing consortiums and platforms at a national level
-Its improves business plan of projects in early stages
