About this good practice
The Cooperative Slimmer Leven 2020 was called to life in 2012 to address the pressing issues on the current and traditional healthcare system of the region. By bringing together different organisations, the Cooperative aims to address both societal and economic challenges such as the ageing population, a rise in chronic illnesses and the increasing healthcare costs with a decrease of the professional population in this sector. The 60 member organisation are all active in the healthcare domain, consisting of for example, hospitals, healthcare providers, home-care organisations and health insurance providers. On top of this, the entire quadruple helix is represented through the involvement of knowledge institutions, government (local and provincial), industry and the end-users/citizens. In terms of activities, the Cooperative is not only a network organisation which brings together different actors, but it is also actively involved in local/regional/national/EU projects.
Resources needed
The Cooperative is funded through a membership fee. This fee covers the core networking activities, both in terms of activities/events as well as human resources to organize/manage the network. Involvement in projects is generally organised through external organised through external funding.
Evidence of success
The Cooperative Slimmer Leven 2020, through its unique position in the Brainport Eindhoven Region has been identified as one of the ten healthcare innovation regions of the Netherlands. On top of this, the Cooperative Slimmer Leven 2020, together with the Province of North-Brabant (one of the Cooperatives’ members) were awarded three out of four stars in the 2016 Call for Reference Sites by the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing.
Potential for learning or transfer
The potential for learning regarding the Cooperative Slimmer Leven 2020 is high since the principle of bringing together the quadruple helix can be embedded in other regions as well. On top of this, the activities of a network organisation can be tailored to the local setting. As such, the Good Practice is highly transferable.
