About this good practice
The Action “Aid for accommodation establishments, to create websites and computer reservation systems (digi-lodge)” referred to the implementation of investments in the tourism sector by enterprises that operate hotels or accommodation establishments.
The Action is aimed at:
• The international projection of Western Macedonia
• The reduction of seasonality and extending the tourist season
• The adoption and use of modern tools of ICT by the hotels and accommodation establishments
With this direction, accommodation establishments and hotels were supported by this Action in order to develop new applications for web promotion and communication including computer reservation systems. The completion of the project also included the use of existing or new systems of the best computerization practices of hotels and accommodation establishments. The action approved funding for tourist sector SME's in 2010 and all projects run until 2013.

Resources needed
The total budget allocated through the digi-lodge action amounts to 75,000,000 €, of which 60% (45,000,000 €) comes from Public Expenditure, while the remaining 40% (30,000,000 €) covered by private participation. The Action is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
Evidence of success
1) The tourist related SMEs that were supported in RWM numbered 49 and the total amount of funding was about 730,000 Euro (ESRF).
2) The estimated increase in the number of tourists in targeted accommodations that used the new ICT technologies in direct booking was more than 100%
3) The estimated increase of SMEs working in the tourism sector using the provided services through a new website was 15%
4) The estimated increase of SMEs working in the tourism sector was 30%

Potential for learning or transfer
The creation of website for web promotion and communication including computer reservation systems in rural areas, will promote the area and will extend the tourist season. The completion of the project also will help the use of existing or new systems of the best computerization practices of hotels and accommodation establishments.
