About this good practice
The owner of this GP is the University of Latvia (UL), Study Centre for Entrepreneurship Management. It is designed for owners, managers and employees of companies, who want to digitalize their businesses and apply digitalization tools in practice.
The programme is supported by ESF project “Development of professional competence of persons employed”, which has been worked out by the Latvian Ministry of Education and Science to help to improve important professional skills for people more than 25 years old, including those who haven't finished schooling, young parents, as well as retired people. The project covers study fees, travel expenses and other costs for participants. Overall, the ESF project plans to target 55 000 people until 2023.
The programme offered by the UL includes important topics related to business digitalization, such as digital marketing, using social networks and tools, e-commerce, functioning of internet shops, building data bases for enterprises. It contains 160 academic hours over 4 months (50 hours of theoretical works and 110 hours of practical work). Lectures are organized once per week from 18.00-21.45.

Resources needed
Thanks to the ESF support the programme can offer reduced study fees: EUR 51.20 with EU and state funding. A full cost of the programme is EUR 512.00 if covering costs from personal sources. And it costs EUR 775.00 if taken after the project lifetime. The programme is also supported by the UL.
Evidence of success
The LU programme has already helped to improve digital skills for more than 10 000 people, thus providing a great contribution for the ESF project targets. There is still a great demand for this programme, especially taking into account increasing importance of the digitalization and the impact of Covid-19. In the fall of 2021 the study programme has been organized for the 6th time and 2000 interested persons have applied. This is expected that a number of participants will still increase.
Potential for learning or transfer
This is a good example of how the ESF programme can be used to promote the digitalization of businesses, which can similarly be applied also in other regions taking into account that today digitalization has a great importance for people and businesses. Other regions can learn from the content of the training program, as well as from the approach of its organization. Also, this should be foreseen that such study programmes are supported by the EU funding to make it more attractive and accessible for participants.
