About this good practice
Origin
In order to minimize the visual impact of waste in the world heritage site area, different solutions have been developed, such as aesthetical cover (51% waste capacity), underground containers (4%), door to door collection (23%) and ecopoints (23%). Among them, ecopoints are the most advanced solution.
Timescale and Development
Ecopoints have been implemented in the last 10 years. They consist on a public waste room where containers are kept. The simple original design has been modified including control access, security, and usability equipment.

Average cost of ecopoint is about 70.000€ (real state cost excluded) for six one cubic meter capacity containers.

Ecopoints integrate access control, video surveillance interior, mailboxes for the deposit of waste (the four fraction collected in city: organic, packaging and inerts, paper, glass), thermal insulation and air conditioning, fire extinguishing system and automatic cleaning
Use degree
City hall plan involves ecopoints will be extended in the whole historical town center (32.000 habitant), that implies removing all waste containers in the street. Every ecopoint is used for 770 inhabitants in average, so currently about 8.500 citizens and local shops are benefited

Potential for learning or transfer
The system is perfectly replicable in different cities and situations, in fact ecopoint have been developed in the city of Sfax (Jordan) and it is under development in the city of Ibiza (Spain) as well as in Quito and Cuenca (Ecuador) as a result of cooperation projects.
