About this good practice
In Spain, the so-called welfare state, in terms of family protection and conciliation, is considerably lower than that of other countries of the European Union. There is a real need to resolve this issue and in this context is where the EFR initiative comes from; an international movement that, as part of the CSR, deals with advancing and giving answers in matters of responsibility and respect for the conciliation of family, personal and work life.
Likewise, it also promotes support for equal opportunities and the inclusion of the most disadvantaged, based on current and binding legislation and collective bargaining, so that companies efr perform a voluntary self-regulation in the matter. Efr responds to a new socio-labour and business culture based on flexibility, respect and mutual commitment.
At present, Fundación Másfamilia is the owner of the private certification efr, the only one in conciliation. A management tool unique in the world that provides a simple and effective methodology to enable conciliation processes in companies. It is a third-party management model, based on continuous improvement.
The Fundación Másfamilia initiative encourages people management policies to be directed today not only to retain talent through training and economic incentives, but also to facilitate the personal and family life of the employee through policies of flexibility, support for the family, development, leadership and quality in employment.

The efr certificate is granted based on the fulfilment of a series of quantitative and qualitative requirements:
- Adaptation to the legal requirements in force and binding

Evidence of success
The Efr Initiative has been recognized by the UN as Good Practice and by COFACE. In addition, it is endorsed by the Ministry of Health, Consumption and Social Welfare of Spain.

Potential for learning or transfer
With regard to the political sphere, one cannot ignore the challenges facing society today, such as the improvement of the birth rate in the face of demographic aging and work in terms of professional equality between men and women.
A combination of policies that support the conciliation between professional and family lives, and equality between men and women, will favour an increase in the fertility rate and a high level of female employment. That’s why this Practice should be transferred to all Member States.
It is important that Member States promote policies for families that support the balance between work and family life, promote gender equality and the empowerment of women and that promote involvement of parents and their assumption of responsibilities. Something that, for example, is raised in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU.
