About this good practice
The National Trust EcoFund was established in 1995. under the Environmental Protection Act and manages assets under swap debt-to-environment transactions, the Kyoto Protocol and other sources of financing to implement national environmental policies. The cooperation between the National Trust EcoFund and the cooperation with the project GreenS (another finished project for GPP in Bulgaria) for the promotion of green public procurement was created and implemented in connection with the implementation of the program "Environment - Electric Vehicles" in 2017. in Bulgaria.
In 2017 under this scheme, the National Trust EcoFund provided financial support for a total of 27 projects that delivered 39 electric vehicles. Delivery procedures based on the green criteria were carried out by 20 Bulgarian municipalities and 7 state institutions. The purchase of the electric cars was done by using green public procurement.

Expert opinion
The practice is a good example for implementing GPP for one particular type of product - electric cars. The effort was triggered by the funding of a national environmental fund and raised the capacity of 20 municipalities and seven additional state institutions how to design criteria for the purchase of electric cars. The practice may be of interest to regions and cities who would be interested in exploring GPP implementation for the purchase of electric cars.

The total value of the vehicles purchased was EUR 1 100 000, incl. a grant of € 365,000.

The environmental impact of these projects includes the following savings: CO2 emissions per year - 117 758 kg; emissions of harmful gases - 430 926 g; CO emissions per year, city - 500 516; Emissions of fine particulate matter, per year, in the city - 15 967
