Evaluate the economic, social and environmental value of a wood construction for a territorry
About this good practice
When a collectivity use wood from their territory to build it creates economic, social and environnemental value from the forest for their territory. The tool A.R.T evaluate this value by indicators depending on the quantity of wood used in the building, the wood origins and companies localisations. It allows collectivities to rate their investements and argue in favor of local wood uses in buildings. It can also be used by public authorities who look to rate their incentive policies.
A free simulator is available online to simulate the economic, social and environnemental impacts of a project.
Resources needed
We developped A.R.T with the consultant cabinet BIOM ATTITUDE. We have been supported by the french forest-wood interprofession "France Bois Forêt".
Evidence of success
More than 30 projects have been evaluated. Mayors use the results to communicate on their project. Departements used it to evaluate their policies.
Potential for learning or transfer
This tool can be used/developped/adapted by others organisms in Europe in order to help them to create synergies between forest and wood actors by convencing collectivities to use local wood thanks to arguments and indicators.
