This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
It has become necessary to activate a solid, modern rural economy capable of facing the challenges of the future, through a radical change in the approach and use of forest biomass, promoting a new model of cooperation and a resilient supply chain that puts at the center of the sustainable, legal and certified management of forest resources through the efficient use of wood thermal energy and the minimization of overall environmental impacts.
In this context, a sustainable wood thermogenesis was implemented, able to generate contextually, thanks to the advances of the technical and technological avant-garde that guarantee, on a small scale, both the increase in profitability of woody material and a reduction of particulate emissions in the atmosphere.
The actors involved are forest-energy chain operators who witness the creation of a virtuous model of short supply chain, of circular economy, for the production of clean and sustainable thermal energy for the benefit of the people of mountain areas: The Municipality of Collelongo as owner of the school served and of the wooded areas (Ha 3,700); The Forestry Consortium Le Valli dell'Orso (Consortium of mixed public-private management); Forestry Conduct - Association of Interests and Forest Communities, construction operator and operator of the plant and manager of the plant; GAL Abruzzo Italico Alto Sangro, co-financing of the intervention; Vallelonga Ambiente Agricultural and forestry, forest works and supply of wood chips

Resources needed
RDP Abruzzo 2007 - 2013 - Local Development Plan LAG Abruzzo Italico Alto Sangro; Measure 4.1.2 Action 3 Leader - Project 1 Project of "Implementation of pilot plant - Step 1"
AMOUNT: € 285,653.00 of which € 200,000.00 of public contribution for the PSL GAL AIAS and € 85,653.00 of co-financing

Evidence of success
The plant, with a rated output of 151 kW, has managed to supply, without technical gaps, in one year 54,100 kWh of thermal energy, with a yield of over 90% and with emissions measured and certified below 30 mg / m³ of particulate matter in the atmosphere (legal limit at 100 mg / m³).
To feed it, only wood chips from the local supply chain were used, which meant an income supplementation and good productivity for the local forest cooperative, as well as reducing costs.

Potential for learning or transfer
Being a modular power plant, inserted in a naval container and with energy transfer through the exchanger, it is easy to replicate and to position in any structure in Italy, as in Europe.
In fact, in Piedmont (ITALY), there are over 15 similar facilities managed by the La Foresta Cooperative, which has provided the know-how for the realization of this good practice in our territory.
In addition, under the responsibility of the Associazione Condotta Forestale, two other plants have been built in Villavallelonga (AQ) (ITALY) and another 4 plants are being built in various Municipalities of Abruzzo (ITALY)
