This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
University of Szeged, within the frames of Telemedicine Oriented Research in the Fields of Mathematics, Informatics, and Medical Sciences Project, established a development center based on telemedical tools and turns medical/IT/economic expertise into specific products and, eventually, into money – in the form of startup companies. The center facilitates work processes of various fields of science, which are or will be utilized in later innovations.
Preceded by five preparatory-phase projects, the Centre builds on the output of an in-cloud platform stemming from telemedicine-oriented research, ICT network development, development of telemonitoring tools/devices for homecare, telemedicine cloud with special focus on secure connection to mobile phones. The good practice faced the challenge of pooling academic knowledge, ICT enterprise and business investment into a permanent structure, which facilitates further research and development, keeps innovative ideas and implementation under the same roof. The center is fostering the access of innovative telemedicine products to the market, doing preliminary market research, and providing the legal guidance/advice for copyright. Crucial stakeholders, such as medical and experts and researchers (university staff), IT developers, venture capital investors. The University as potential lead partner for future projects got closer to industrial actors, mainly SMEs, to engage in long-term quadruple-helix cooperation(s) through the center.

Resources needed
A project manager and an assistant. Plus in part-time/subcontracting basis 5-10 experts for development, and financial, legal communication and controlling activities. Development costs for co-creation innovative tools form the selected ideas are gained from the spin-offs of the central project.
Evidence of success
The center is operated by goal-oriented project management having created innovation from diverse project ideas, e.g: 1) Screening childhood obesity and high blood pressure; 2) Monitoring fatal heart rate; 3) monitoring baby heart rate and respiration; 4) Predicting ovulation for therapies; 5) Differentiating tremor types; 6) Stroke rehabilitation; 7) Telemonitoring pacemakers; 8) Measuring exposure to isotopes; 9) Early detection of memory problems; 10) Analysis of pulse curve.
Potential for learning or transfer
It is a good practice for the co-creation phase in the innovation delivery process by developing and providing educational, medical, research and shared facilities and services for statups, as well as assisting investments and job market.
The uniqueness of the center is insured by the fully available information technology infrastructure, such. the Inclouded Platform facilitating swift realization of various project ideas (on occasion, 90% time and resource savings by means of the telemedicine system) and the FuturICT.hu Platform expediting collection and analysis of large amounts of (involving e.g. 10.000 patients) anonymous information and data obtained from various medical statements.
Co-creation activities are followed by stronger scientific/research and market valorisation and uptake of innovation are followed by a new collaborative project launched recently and granted by EDIOP-211/17.
