This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
Worldwide populations are growing older. While the individual aging is associated with illness and functional loss, and disability-free life expectancy is significantly lower than life expectancy at birth. This situation is awared by many as a threat in terms of public health and economic costs.
Kineage is a serious game in 3D which is focused on achieving active healthy ageing. The solution comprises a serious game in 3D to help the elderly exercise while having fun. Through leisure, it is possible to promote both user mobility during training and the cognitive process.
The difference of this solution with other products available on the market is that it can be used even in wheelchairs, and it can be adapted to the particular necessities of the user. This way, exercise, rehabilitation and the enjoyment of an accessible leisure is promoted. Even by having a total lack of knowledge of new technologies, the users are able to play the game, learn about its use and apply this knowledge in other technological fields, addressing the problem of the digital divide.
The game was developed by researchers from DeustoTech LIFE (eVida), University of Deusto (UD, Spain), in collaboration with the “Santa y Real Casa de Misericordia” in Bilbao (residence centre for elderly in risk of exclusion).

Resources needed
This project was funded by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and was selected among the 20 finalists of "Social Innovation in Ageing - The European Award 2014", in which 220 institutions around Europe participated. Nowadays, 4 people lead the implementation of the project.
Evidence of success
The program which started as a pilot, has been included by the nursing home as one of their weekly activities. The project continues being improved in different aspects.
- Improve physical, functional and independence capacity for activities of daily living (SPPB, Barthel)
- Improving the perception of the quality of life (EuroQoL)
The opinion of the elderly can be seen in this video:

Potential for learning or transfer
Health System, in order to be sustainable, needs to boost the prevention in order that most of ageing people achieve a successful aging, that is, aging without disabilities with autonomy enough and quality of life. Thus, active and healthy ageing is one of the priorities of any government.
Kineage is a good example of how to boost the active ageing with an easy to implement system, ready to be use in most of houses. The product only needs a Kinect sensor and a PC which means that can be transferred easily to any place. Furthermore, the product is adapted to be used by people with physical disabilities: people with little or no mobility in the legs who use wheelchairs or people who have mobility limitations in the arms. The program which started as a pilot, it has been included by the nursing home as one of their weekly activities. The project continues being improved in different aspects.
