La consigne verte
About this good practice
Recycling food waste is accessible to everyone. However, turning it into compost requires a minimum of space and know-how. While composting is perfectly feasible for people with a garden, it is much less so for those living in flats.
In some cases, collective composters are installed in neighbourhoods or residences, but it is clear that this type of operation is still quite rare. There are many reasons for this: lack of time, lack of knowledge about composting techniques, lack of suitable space, fear of nuisance, no easily accessible outlet for the compost, etc.
La Consigne Verte was designed for those who wish to sort their organic waste at home or at the office, but do not have the possibility or the desire to compost it themselves.
It is a simple and accessible solution: you separate your organic waste in a bio-box provided at the time of registration, then empty the waste whenever you want in voluntary drop-off points located next to your home. The waste is collected and transformed into good local compost by the partner association, Les Carrioles Vertes. The compost produced will then be used to improve the soil of the surrounding market gardeners .And this is the beginning of a local circular economy around food and the waste it generates.

Potential for learning or transfer
Creating a network of individuals and companies around an initiative that promotes the circular economy, allows to increase the knowledge of all actors regarding its practice. The process from the recovery of organic waste to its use in agriculture, allows all actors involved in this process to gain an in-depth knowledge of the process to be carried out to achieve this compost, applying the concept of the circular economy from the beginning in households, to the application in the field of agriculture. This good practice has been the beginning of a local circular economy around food and the waste it generates. As the first initiative it gives a first feedback of how people react to this kind of initiative in the food sector. It investigates a new area for regional policy makers in terms of circular economy actions in the territory.
