This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
Personal Protective Equipment are considered special waste. This implies high management costs and the daily production of a great amount of waste which ends up in landfill, causing a significant environmental impact.
Lanzi Srl created an innovative product-service system based on the redesign and regeneration of working gloves, offering new distribution systems for ensuring their effective management, reuse and disposal.
The project included different phases:
- The design and production of ad-hoc versions of working gloves for each type of use, creating new high-quality and long-lasting products that better fit the safety needs of different workers;
- The design of a special automatic dispenser (similar to vending machines) to provide the gloves. A special software (ARGO Pro) has been designed to track the return of the product used by each worker through the use of personal badges, so as to monitor the times a pair of gloves can be regenerated and reused.
- The development of a service for collection, cleaning and reconditioning of used gloves in cooperation with local laundries.
- The regenerated gloves are tested in order to meet the EN UNI requirements, and reintroduced in the distribution system.
This new product-service system enabled to adopt gloves with higher protection performances, avoiding the number of injuries from cuts, thanks to the advantageous economic balance deriving from the adoption of the automatic distribution and of the regeneration.

Resources needed
The project has been privately funded by the company.
Evidence of success
Based on the experience of the company in the application of the GP together with the automatic distribution and collection systems, the final users gain economic benefits in terms of reduction of consumption up to 50%. The development of the income in the industrial washing process and in the management of automatic distribution system, created an increase in the jobs on the territory where production plants are located.
Potential for learning or transfer
The building of an integrated chain requires a close cooperation between the designers and the producers of gloves, the ones regenerating them and the ones managing the automatization of the process. The ability of integration of the stakeholders is thus fundamental to develop the GP. The company involved is in this case favoured, since it both produces gloves and automatic distribution systems.
To transfer the GP, it is necessary to establish a network of local actors around the glove producing company.
