About this good practice
The main activities undertaken by the Help Desk are those of orientation, information and creation of useful contacts between migrants and services. The data on access to the help desk highlighted the greater needs of migrants for effective socio-economic integration.
The main requests involved:
- legal area: requests on document release/renewal/conversion procedures, requests for appointments at public offices, support in legal and bureaucratic procedures.
- job area: the topic was particularly important for migrants in the area, with requests for Curriculum Vitae drafting, registration with employment agencies, registration with training agencies that deal with professional and preparatory courses for entering the world of work , preparing for interviews, reading pay slips.
- health area: support for National Health System practices, choice of doctor, assignment of tax code and health card, booking visits and appointments.
- education and training area: support in school enrollment of minors, support in studying the language, enrollment in professional training courses.
- welfare area: financial contributions for rent and bills.
Labour market integration is exploited trough helping migrants in all the parallel tasks or skills that are essential to be suitable for the labour market. The scope of the project is to create all the assumptions to boost migrants labour market integration. Without these, migrants often fall into the low paid or illegal labour market.

Resources needed
The desk is held by legal operators from social cooperative, in collaboration with the administration of the municipality, educational institutions, public health services, legal desk, employment agencies. The help-desk support cost 20.000 €/year in gross salary.
Evidence of success
Data showed that in one year, 74 persons have been involved by the services offered. A total of 20 family units, 26 minors, 32 men and 42 women.
The project has higlighted that there is a strict link between living and social condition of migrant and the rate of success in entering the labour market. All migrants involved has been succesfully guided trough the process of entering the labour market in local companies.
Potential for learning or transfer
The accesses to the Help Desk highlighted the fundamental needs of migrants for their socio-economic integration in the territory. Based on this information, new initiatives are developed to respond to these needs with new targeted and structured support tools: parentign support, financial education, training and active job search actions aimed at mothers and services for the children of the latter. Furthermore, it is a practice that can be transferred to neighboring communities in order to share the network of contacts and resources effectively.
The approach used ensures that the Help Desk acts both as a support and assistance centre, but also for collecting data (demographic, skills, needs) useful for understanding which public infrastructures to strengthen (educational institutions, public health services, legal desk, employment agencies) on resources and new policies , the local actors to involve and the needs for shaping future active policies in the territory.
