Expert opinion
This is an interesting innovation practice from Spain where innovation specialists from Tecnalia (a research and technology entity) get involved in the innovation processes of concrete companies. The practice stand out from the amount of time dedicated to each company – the specialist works a full day per week at the company.
The support is therefore tailored to the needs od the company and an adjusted model of innovation is created with the help of the innovation manager. This specialist collaborates with the SME and guides it in meeting its innovation needs, reinforces a culture of innovation and supports the development of innovation projects.
Albeit Tecnalia is a private RTO, a similar practice could be run by publicly managed business support organizations or with public projects/grants that would lower the own contribution for SMEs for such a service.
