This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
Plastic-wood composite is a challenging material.
It behaves differently compared to plastic.
The same methods and moulds do not work and new innovations and developement for the process were needed.
The problems were solved by experimenting and testing with a
number of different method variations.
Plastec Finland is a plastic Company located in Vimpeli in South Ostrobothnia, Finland. It has produced injection moulded plastic products for over 30 years. At first, products were manufactured of plastic only, but in resent years the company has begun to manufacture plastic wood based fiber composite products. The plastic materials are mixed with waste material from the paper industry. The circulated waste material can be up to 40 - 50 % of the raw material.
The paper industry’s waste material can replace part of the plastic in plastic products. The use of oil-based materials can be reduced and shifted to using circulated low-carbon materials. The production require method development for the plactic
injection moulding process. After development process the results are good and more sustainable plastic products can be
produced on commercial basis.
Paper industry produces the material and is a necessary partner of the practice. The subscribers and sellers of products are part of the cooperation network. Plastec Finland also
cooperates in product development with other enterprises

Resources needed
Replacing the manufacture ng material of the products did not increase the human resources. The development of the method required time resources, and replacement of tools and moulds require financial resources of approx. 200.000 euro
Evidence of success
Plastic-wood based ecological fiber composite products have shown up good quality, they are competetive and they have demand at the market.
Potential for learning or transfer
Customers are interested in buying eco-friendly products, and there is a demand for the products.
The product reduces the amount of waste material and implements the idea of a circular economy. The method is to be transferred to other countries
