Promotion of separation in the organic fraction

This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
The starting point was the city plan to separate the organic fraction to make compost for agricultural purposes.
Main initiatives developed:
1. Bags of compost are distributed and information is provided in the streets and at other social points.
2. Growing scholar little vegetable gardens using compost, showing pupils how useful compost (produced from organic fraction of waste) is. (23 schools participated)
3. Eco-heros: enviromental program for schools and citizen associations for producing compost by themselves in their own centers. It allows to people consider organic waste as an useful resource. (26 schools participated)
3. Cordoba Recycla (pilot): implementation of smart containers where citizen are identified through personal cards. People that voluntarily participe in the program obtain awards (i.e.cinema tickets) for good separation of waste.
4. Environmental center visits: students and interested citizens visit the recycling plant and waste treatment is showed to raise awareness (102 groups, shools or associations participated)

Resources needed
The budget allocated for the action is €30,000/year which covers events raising awareness, public interventions for separation, the participation of the SADECO Educational Service and agreements with different city organisations to reproduce the initiative.
Evidence of success
Increase of 19% in compost at composting sites thanks to better separation at source from 2010 to 2014
