Re-Search Alps: Research labs in the alpine area
About this good practice
The EU CEF Telecom Re-Search Alps project (INEA/CEF/ICT/A2016/1296967) aims to collect and make available information about Laboratories, Research and Innovation Centers active in the seven countries of the Alpine Area, with a special effort made on the 48 EUSALP regions. The open data collection will be constantly and automatically updated and retrieved with the support of semantic-multilingual search algorithms and made available on the RSA platform. The project will provide benefits to Higher Education institutions, managers, intermediaries (e.g. technology transfer offices), researchers and policy makers by providing useful data and contacts, fostering collaborative innovation while facilitating the networking process.
Resources needed
Resources available - the project will end in June 2019. In order to maintain and improve the platform resources will be needed after this date.
Evidence of success
The project has currently mapped 126,102 organisations active in the 7 Countries considered (France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Slovenia, Austria); 257,376 projects concerning Research and Innovation, 112,680 websites and 766,599 publications aimed at improving the Research and Innovation ecosystem.
Potential for learning or transfer
This project poses a vital problem: in order to improve the Research and Innovation ecosystem within a Country or a Macro-Regional strategy's territory knowledge about what is available and where is crucial. There seems to be a lack of knowledge when it comes to research infrastructures, this slows the networking process between research institutions (private and/or public), SMEs and start-ups. In order to avoid this knowledge gap a dataset with geo-referenced data is need in each Country.
Finally, the project develops a semantic algorithm that will automatically update the data available on the platform, making it sustainable on the long run. It would be ideal if each Country within the EU implemented such project in order to have a common shared map of Research and Innovation infrastructures available on the territory.
