This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
The primary reason on a holistic level to carry out this project is to increase the ability of the city of Bábolna to keep its inhabitants. In order to achieve this goal, it is essential to ensure the cleanliness, orderliness and liveability of the city. Also, attracting investors and stimulating the use of green technology is another holistic goal.
Regarding the aims specific to energetics, the main goals are to reduce the energy used in general, to decrease Co2 emissions and to increase the share of reneweable energy used in the city.
In the agglomeration of Bábolna there are several geothermal water pumps, so the idea rose to make use of the geothermal energy and the associated gas coming from one of the pumps located in the city. The idea is to be implemented as follows: the pump is put into operation, a thermal water pipeline is built leading to the gas technology building where after extracting the water the separation, cleaning and boosting of the associated gas takes place. New gas pumplines are built leading to the Sportshall and Cooking Kitchen located close to the pump. The associated gas can be put into use in the already existing equipments of the building where natural gas was used before. This implementation of the project is optimal, first of all, because the geothermal energy can be used by putting an already existing, but inactive pump into operation again and second of all, because there is no need to purchase new heat-generating equipments.

Resources needed
200 million forints including soft skills put into promotion of environmentalism among the locals, orientation of children and promotion of brownfield investment approach.
Evidence of success
After the development, the following targets should be achieved according to the calculations:
In the Sports Hall:
- before the development: 122.548 kWh natural gas used
- after the development: 104.166 kWh will be substituted
- before the development: 23.098 kWh electricity used
- after the development: 1.670 kWh will be substituted
In the Cooking Kitchen:
- before the development: 85.595 kWh natural gas used
- after the development: 85.595 kWh will be substituted

Potential for learning or transfer
Geothermal energy is present in the earth in the form of heat. Hungary is rich in geothermal energy but there are also other parts in Europe where this type of energy can be found in a more concentrated amount, such as: Denmark, the Netherlands, northern parts of Germany, some parts of France, Italy, United Kingdom, Romania and Bulgaria. This practice of Bábolna contributes to the Rural SMEs objectives by serving as a good example for other cities and/or villages located at places which are rich in geothermal energy. Also, it is an example for how to stimulate the local green entrepreneurial drive. Another potential for learning could be the way this project is to be carried out, by using and integrating installations which are already given into the project plan. The step-by-step approach of this project might also be interesting for other regions, numerous smaller projects aiming to promote sustainability will eventually add up and create an overall image.
