About this good practice
The Regional Expert Council for livestock breeding aims at encouraging the development of livestock in Burgas region by enhancing the transfer and application of new technologies in the rural areas. The Council was founded in 2012 in order to raise awareness and opportunities for farm improvement and development of livestock breeding in the settlements in the region. It brings together experts from all the institutions involved in the livestock sector in Burgas region, namely non-governmental organizations, breeders of various industries, scientific institutes (more than 50 members, there is no strict distribution between the members). It is a new partnership on regional level that can provide support to each breeder individually and to respond to the demands of the sector as a whole. The Council contributes to increase the professional awareness, experience and qualification of farmers for the sustainability and competitiveness of their farms and their products of animal origin.
The Expert Council fulfils the following functions: it consolidates the role of the private sector and the importance of interactions within the sector, emphasizing the outcomes of technology and knowledge generation.
To enhance the transfer of technologies to rural areas in Burgas the Expert Council organised a bank of knowledge drawing attention to the new innovations and growth. Development of this bank of knowledge was supported by many promotional campaigns and awareness raising events.

Evidence of success
Good coordination between scientific institutes and the Council ensured transfer of innovations to farmers, who show exclusive interest and attendance to the Council’s events. trainings, seminars, demonstration days, exchange of learning practices led to technological improvement and productivity growth in farms.Innovation transfer - In 2017, more than 20 % increase in the incomes from agriculture sector was registered in the region. In 2018, 16 new cattle-breeding farms were registered.
