This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
During December 2019 Central Transdanubian Regional Innovation Agency implemented Reverse Advent initiative in cooperation with a local NGO, called Ki? -Ti & Mi. The essence of Reverse Advent initiative is that instead of receiving something like a normal advent calendar, we give something each day. On the 1st of December we open an empty box and then for 24 days we put something in there each day. Then we give the package to a family that couldn’t afford Christmas presents. These families are the main beneficieries of our initiative. In implementing good practise, we use the REUSE approach. Instead of buying the presents, we give our own things away with the involvment of our children. We put toys, books, clothes and useful tools in the box. REUSE approach means that all items get a second life.
Resources needed
This initiative doesn’t require financial resources.
Evidence of success
Results achieved:
- number of donator families (10 families in 2019)
- number of families supported (10 families in 2019)
- number of reused pieces (clothes, toys, books…) (240 in 2019)
- increasing social responsability
- strengthening environmentally conscious consumption

Potential for learning or transfer
We consider this initiative as being potentially interesting to learn from, because it is very easy, very cheap and during an important period of a year when we start to pay attention to ourselves we can do something for our relationship, for our environment and for decreasing social inequalities. Important aspect is that our own kids can be involved to create these Advent Boxes and we can give new lifes to our old unused pieces, like toys, books and clothes.
In addition to social relevance and awareness raising, an important aspect of good practice is the environmental-reuse-secondhand approach. We believe that a more waste-free environment can be achieved by shaping consumption patterns.
