Potential for learning or transfer
SmartKalea is a pioneering initiative that integrates in a single street of the city different solutions of energy efficiency that requires on a small scale a very high level of coordination and integration that can serve as a pilot experience transferred gradually to the rest of the city. Thanks to the experience obtained, the reliability of the project in other neighborhoods can lead to energy saving and consumption reduction results in a shorter period since it can benefit from know-how obtained.
This is permitting to take further steps in the materialization of the smart strategy of the city of Donostia / San Sebastián. In the same way, this established model may not only be extended in the city of San Sebastián, but the SmartKalea project can serve as a pilot reference for other cities in their attempt to move towards a Smart City by promoting sustainability in energy efficiency and optimization of resources through the extensive use of ICTs.
