About this good practice
The country's technology policy focuses on six future fields - mechanical engineering, information and communication, energy, nutrition, mobility and health. The TIBs are focused on these specific areas. On the basis of technical and company-specific inquiries from industry, appropriate scientific expertise is searched for at universities and research institutions and recommended to companies in order to jointly identify cooperation potentials for research and development. Thus the TIBs act as scout and intermediate to develop joint projects. Within the frame of the RIS the TIBs are rather free to define the way they operate. The placement of specialists, but also interns, working students and the recruitment of project and final theses are just as much topics of daily work as the company succession, proactive problem / interest exploring among SMEs, idea development (jointly with RTD and SME), funding and financing overview /support, project process support, follow up communication between stakeholders and networking (own or joining other regional events). The TIBs have access to a nationwide proven structure of science and industry that have been jointly established in recent years. In order for the TIB to be able to work successfully, it is not only closely integrated into the Universities, but also into the Chambers of Commerce and Industry and of Trade, respectively. The TIBs at the 5 universities cooperate very closely.
The services are free of charge for industry.

Resources needed
The 5 TIBs are financed 50% each by the EU (ERDF), 25% by universities and 25% by chambers.
These are 5 full-time positions as well as travel and material costs. Thats roughly a total of €270,000 each of the TIBs for 3 project years.

Evidence of success
A total of approx. 5-10 business/business or business/sience cooperations in the field of life sciences can be achieved per year.
With the focus on bioeconomics: 3 major conferences have already been organised and carried out with considerable regional and national participation, and it has also been jointly achieved that the company Continental has set up a laboratory location in the region: 35 million euros will be invested. Further 2 project proposals (bioeconomy) were written and submitted

Potential for learning or transfer
In principle, it is very possible to implement this instrument in other regions. This requires the interest of the parties involved, the political level and the corresponding funding possibilities. Furthermore, it makes sense for the regions to concentrate on certain core competencies, such as those in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in the field of life sciences with a focus on bioeconomics.
In any case, the TIBs must be experts in their field (not just administrators). This is the only way to achieve recognition among the actors and also leads to a genuine commitment of the TIBs.
TIBs were evaluated by the ELISE project partners as one of the most relevant GPs. In 2019 they will be analysed more closely for their suitability for the partner regions.
