The rehabilitation of historic monuments in Romania,” – Palace of Culture Iasi

This iconic building was built in the period 1906 – 1925, on the place of the former Royal Palace as Palace of Justice. In 1955, the building changed its purpose into a cultural destination, becoming the host of important cultural institutions in Iasi. After 2000 the Palace was in a advanced state of degradation and rehabilitation works were needed. This was done under the governmental project “The rehabilitation of historic monuments in Romania,” funded by the Council of Europe Development Bank and implemented by a project management unit with the Ministry of Culture.
The works respected the restrictions imposed by a historical building, however, energy efficiency measures have been implemented through:
- Outside and inside lightening with led;
- Modernization and replacement of old high consuming heating system and use of cooling air station activated with sensor technologies, preventing losses;
- Consolidation and insulation of the entire building (floor, walls, roof, windows);
- Use of natural materials (wood, stone etc) with insulation high quality ;
- low air change ventilation;
- controlled day-lighting;
- management of lightening and heating during night (reducing consumption) ;
