About this good practice
Family tourism is identified as the specialization that allows increasing the quality of the offer and the availability of more and better qualified job opportunities that can be spread more efficiently throughout the territory.The participation of relevant actors: academics (Scientific Tourism Park and the Rovira & Virgili University), as well as the provincial administration as the leader of the project and the Council of Tourism results into a consortium that incorporates public and private actors to its government as well as the business associations of the sector. The specific objectives are:Improve, in the logic of destination, the development of specializations based on the family experience, respecting the singularities of each destination and adding value to the different existing assets.Promote an ecosystem specialized that contributes to creating synergies from a platform of integrated and collaborative innovation that facilitates the establishment of stable mechanisms for the creation of new products, services and solutions scalable and transferable to other similar destinations.Promote Tarragona area as a generating space for specialized knowledge that can generate the attraction of specialized talent.
Resources needed
The project budget amounts 3.900.000€. The ERDF funding amounts 1.864.762€. In terms of new employment, the project operations require 13 new positions that are part of the total number of 25 people involved in the project.
Evidence of success
The creation of strategic alliances of different economic sectors. The incorporation of Big Data. The identification of elements of attraction using the technology. The social innovation that aims to improve the attention to groups with special needs. The generation of quality guarantee elements for families. The quantitative evidence: 28 public events, 4,348 participants, 84 participating companies with 1,279 private sector participants, 23,316 social media impacts and 369 media appearances.
Potential for learning or transfer
Our project has the intention of improving the tourist supply and the seasonality of the demand, with new products and services that give way to the new challenges of the territory that look for the specialization and innovation in family tourism. As a result of the execution of our operations, new uses of the beaches may arise, new rules for food intolerances and new uses of cultural heritage that could lead to a different regulation than the current one. The incorporation of Big Data into the decision-making of public and private agents. The family tourist aims to open the possibility of seasonalizing the activity to increase the activity and jobs throughout the year and the possibility of creating new products and services.The incorporation of productive actors into reflection and debate enriches the generation of new proposals.The reinforcement of the innovative ecosystem that links the applied research of the university and private initiative.
